Terry Fincher - Fleet Street Photographer - Dies

Ex-Daily Herald, Daily Express and Keystone photographer Terry Fincher died this morning.
He had been ill for some time and his death follows only a few weeks after that of his wife, June.
Terry covered many conflicts including Egypt, Pakistan, Biafra and Aden. In Biafra his intervention secured the release of two British businessmen, already badly beaten by their captors, and undoubtedly saved their lives. Terry won several press awards including a World Press Award for his coverage of the Vietnam War, had his own column The Fincher File in the Daily Express and set up the agency Photographer’s International which he ran jointly with his daughter, photographer Jayne Fincher.

Terry was born at Oving, near Alysbury in 1931 and started out as a runner with Keystone Press in 1945.

cnet news reports:

Photrade lets photographers control their pictures, get paid for them
Posted by Daniel Terdiman

...In addition, the system allows photographers to track usage of their photos, so that they can determine who is using them. And, if they decide they're not happy with someone specific using a photo, they can block access to that picture. But if that happens, the user gets a note allowing them to ask the photographer for permission. This, of course, is a path to asking for payment for use of the picture....

Getty And Corbis To Concentrate On The 'Celebs'

The Sydney Morning Herald reports today:

I'm a celebrity, I can boost your circulation

Getty Images and Corbis have traditionally relied on the global advertising sector for their lion's share of revenues - for Getty, adland accounts for 30 to 40 per cent of its revenues - but both have started moving quickly on the media sector and celebrities are providing a sweet spot for the two companies.

...."The healthiest magazine circulations worldwide at the moment are celebrity magazines. The trends within this market may ebb and flow - at times street photography and the paparazzi wane a bit when people want to see their favourite celebrities looking nice - but overall the demand seems insatiable.".....

Photographers like Anderson, a thirty-eight-year-old well known for his conflict photography, wonder about the lack of “vetting” of the millions of images that are supposed to be carrying the truth to readers....
